Cactus is a general term for plants of the Cactaceae family, Caryophyllales. It is a succulent plant, but in horticulture, it is often distinguished from the general succulent category and referred to as "cacti and succulents." Cacti have specialized, succulent, and fleshy vegetative organs designed to store water. They are primarily found in the Americas, most notably in tropical regions. They thrive in dry, low-rainfall environments such as deserts and semi-deserts, with some occurring as epiphytes in rainforests. The Cactaceae family comprises approximately 150 genera and nearly 2,000 species.
