Agave, a genus of the Asparagaceae family and Agavaceae subfamily, comprises 266 species, all of which are perennial evergreens. Agaves are collectively referred to as agaves. They are native to arid and semi-arid regions of the Americas, with the highest species diversity found in Mexico, where approximately 75% of the genus' species are found.
